NCS Begins Free, Fair Recruitment for Nearly 4,000 Officers

Date:

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced its 2025 recruitment exercise, opening applications for 3,927 officer positions in its Superintendent, Inspector, and Customs Assistant cadres. The recruitment, announced on Friday, is aimed at bolstering the Service’s capacity to enhance trade facilitation and contribute to the nation’s economic recovery efforts.

The application process began on December 27, 2024, and will remain open until January 2, 2025. Eligible candidates are invited to apply via the official recruitment portal: recruitment.customs.gov.ng.

Recruitment Details and Requirements

The NCS has outlined specific qualifications for each cadre:

  • Superintendent Cadre: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Inspectorate Cadre: Applicants need a National Diploma (ND) or Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE).
  • Customs Assistant Cadre: Eligibility requires O’Level results (WAEC or NECO).

All applicants must also meet physical and mental fitness standards and provide a medical fitness certificate from a recognized government hospital.

Warning Against Fraud

The NCS has cautioned Nigerians to beware of fraudsters during the recruitment process. “Our recruitment process is completely FREE and FAIR. We DO NOT charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process. If anyone demands payment, they are scammers,” the service emphasized.

Background and Significance

The recruitment exercise follows the NCS’s recent approval to expand its workforce, a decision made during the 61st quarterly board meeting held on December 18 at the Customs House in Abuja. The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2025 budget, which targets a projected N35 trillion in revenue to support an ambitious N48 trillion expenditure plan under the theme “A Budget of Restoration.”

By increasing its workforce, the NCS aims to strengthen its role in trade facilitation, enhance border security, and support Nigeria’s economic development goals.

Public Response

The announcement has been met with enthusiasm, as the recruitment provides opportunities for thousands of Nigerians while reinforcing the Customs Service’s commitment to national development. The move has also been lauded as a step toward greater transparency and efficiency in the Service’s operations.

Interested candidates are urged to apply promptly and adhere strictly to the official guidelines to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
