Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has unveiled plans to name the state’s new High Court Complex after the late former Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, in honor of his vision for judicial development.
At the flag-off ceremony for the project on Thursday, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the significance of the new “Judiciary Village,” a state-of-the-art High Court Complex set to be completed in 48 weeks. The project, which marks a historic milestone for the state, is designed to meet the growing demands of the judiciary, improve working conditions for judicial officers, and enhance the efficiency of the justice system.
Governor Aiyedatiwa noted that the vision for the complex was originally conceived during Akeredolu’s tenure as governor, highlighting that it was part of his predecessor’s long-standing commitment to improving the state’s judicial infrastructure. He described the project as a fulfillment of Akeredolu’s dream to create a modern space for the administration of justice in Ondo State.
The new complex will feature a ceremonial court, modular courts, a registry, a library, exhibition buildings, a utility building, and modern parking facilities, among other amenities. Aiyedatiwa stressed that, while the state is not financially overflowing, the project is being undertaken as a testament to the administration’s dedication to providing a functional and modern working environment for the judiciary.
In a poignant moment, the governor revealed that the complex would be named the Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu Judiciary Complex as a lasting tribute to the late governor’s contributions. “It is fitting that we honor his legacy in this way,” Aiyedatiwa stated, underscoring that the complex would speed up the dispensation of justice in Ondo State, benefiting both judicial officers and those seeking justice.
Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olusegun Odusola, also attended the event and expressed his enthusiasm for the project. He affirmed that the complex would elevate the state judiciary to global standards, with facilities that can compete with any judicial system worldwide.
The project is expected to have a transformative impact on the judiciary, providing modern infrastructure for the administration of justice and solidifying Akeredolu’s legacy in the state’s development.
