Zamfara Communities Breathe Easy After Army Eliminates Notorious Criminal

Date:

Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralized “Al’jan,” a notorious bandit who had long terrorized the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Al’jan’s death, confirmed during a joint military operation, has brought relief to communities plagued by his reign of terror.

Al’jan, originally from Niger Republic, began his life in Tsafe as a motorcycle taxi operator. His familiarity with the area and connections with Fulani herders led him to join a criminal gang headed by Hassan Bamamu. Over time, he became a key figure in orchestrating raids, kidnappings, and other acts of violence throughout the region.

The bandit was linked to several high-profile killings, including the murders of Anas Umar Dan Kanti, Alhaji Musa Ille, and a Navy officer whose identity was not disclosed. Residents lived in fear of his activities, particularly along the Tsafe-Gusau road, a frequent target of his gang’s attacks.

A counterterrorism expert, Zagazola Makama, detailed Al’jan’s descent into criminality, noting his integral role in guiding gangs through Tsafe and its environs. However, his reign came to an end three weeks ago during a coordinated operation involving soldiers and local vigilantes.

The operation targeted Al’jan and his associates in Mada and Yandoton Daji, culminating in an ambush that left the gang leader and several of his members dead. Residents of Bamamu village, his last known hideout, confirmed his demise after identifying his remains.

The elimination of Al’jan has been met with widespread relief and optimism among residents of Tsafe and its surrounding communities. The Nigerian Army’s efforts have renewed hope for security and stability in an area previously marred by frequent attacks and unrest.
