Makinde Delivers on Energy Independence Promise with Ibadan Hybrid Power Project

Date:

The Oyo State Government has announced the successful activation of the 11 Megawatts Ibadan Hybrid Power Project, providing uninterrupted electricity to the state secretariat and surrounding areas.

Commissioned earlier this month by Governor Seyi Makinde, the project marks a significant step towards energy independence for the state. According to the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, the hybrid power system now supplies round-the-clock electricity to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) located in the secretariat, as well as the Secretariat Clinic, the State House of Assembly, and the Governor’s office.

The first phase of the project includes a 5MW integrated power plant powered by solar energy and natural gas. The next phase will expand the reliable energy supply to additional critical facilities, such as selected schools, Adeoyo and Ring Road Hospitals, the High Court complex, and Adamasingba Stadium.

The project, executed under a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model, is a collaborative effort between the state government and a private energy conglomerate through the Ministry of Energy.

Commissioner Oyelade highlighted the project as a fulfillment of Governor Makinde’s promise to enhance infrastructure and promote sustainable energy solutions in the state. Residents and government employees have praised the uninterrupted power supply as a transformative development for Oyo State’s governance and public services.
