PDP Slams Tinubu’s Stance on Fuel Subsidy Removal, Cabinet Size

Date:

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed strong disapproval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent media chat, describing it as a stark indication of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government’s insensitivity to the struggles of Nigerians.

In his Monday address, President Tinubu defended his administration’s policies, emphasizing that tax reforms and the removal of fuel subsidies were yielding positive outcomes. He also dismissed calls to reduce the size of his cabinet, stating that downsizing was not part of his strategy to address governance costs.

Reacting to these remarks, the PDP, in a statement on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, criticized the president’s stance, alleging a lack of connection with the realities faced by ordinary Nigerians.

“President Tinubu’s comments reflect a government that is disconnected from the everyday challenges of its citizens,” the PDP stated, highlighting what it termed as the “ill-implemented and anti-people policies of the APC,” which it claims are exacerbating the hardship faced by Nigerians.

The opposition party called on the president to experience firsthand the struggles of Nigerians by traveling by road and visiting markets and cities to witness the impact of his administration’s policies.

“President Tinubu’s claim that Nigerians can now travel safely by road does not align with the grim reality of banditry, kidnapping, and the deteriorating state of the nation’s highways. We urge him to undertake a road journey from Abuja to Lagos and interact directly with citizens to understand the true situation,” the statement added.

The PDP also referenced recent food stampedes that resulted in multiple fatalities, describing them as tragic symptoms of the nation’s economic plight under the APC-led government.

Efforts to reach APC National Publicity Secretary Barrister Felix Morka for a response were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
