Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has announced the distribution of 484 laptop computers to primary healthcare centres across all 44 local government areas in the state. This initiative is part of the state’s ongoing effort to modernise and digitise healthcare facilities, enhancing the quality of service delivery.
Governor Yusuf made the announcement on Monday during the flag-off ceremony of the 2nd Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health Week in Kumbotso Local Government Area. The computers will be distributed to apex Primary Healthcare Centres in every ward, enabling healthcare workers to better manage patient data, track services, and improve overall healthcare efficiency.
In a statement from the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, it was revealed that this computer distribution is only one aspect of a broader strategy to modernise Kano’s healthcare system. Key healthcare facilities, including Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Hospital, Hasiya Bayero Hospital, and Nuhu Bamalli Hospital, have also undergone major renovations to improve infrastructure.
Governor Yusuf stressed that the initiative is part of his administration’s commitment to ensuring quality healthcare for all Kano residents. The state has also installed solar power systems at the headquarters of the State Primary Healthcare Management Board and its six zonal offices to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
Additionally, hundreds of secondary and primary healthcare facilities are set to undergo renovations, with funding for these projects already included in the state’s 2025 annual budget.
“The ultimate goal is to provide quality and affordable healthcare services to everyone in Kano State, regardless of their socio-economic status,” Governor Yusuf said, reaffirming his administration’s focus on improving maternal and child health and overall healthcare delivery.
With these efforts, the state aims to improve the efficiency of its healthcare system, reduce maternal and child mortality, and offer better services to its citizens. This initiative marks a significant step in the state’s ongoing healthcare transformation.
