Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi has been released from the correctional centre in Ekiti State after fulfilling his bail conditions. Farotimi, who was granted bail by an Ado-Ekiti magistrate court last week, was set free on Tuesday morning.
The court had granted the renowned advocate bail on Friday with stringent conditions, including a N30 million bond and two sureties, one of whom must be a property owner. Additionally, Farotimi was required to submit his passport and was prohibited from granting media interviews following his release.
Speaking to the media after his release, Farotimi firmly stated, “I’ve never lied against anyone in my life.” He added that any statement he had made about an individual or institution was based on truth.
Farotimi’s arrest and subsequent legal proceedings have garnered significant attention, with many of his supporters rallying behind him throughout the ordeal. The human rights advocate has long been known for his outspoken defense of civil liberties and justice.
Despite the challenges, Farotimi’s release marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing legal battle, with many now awaiting further developments in the case.
