The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a suspected ritualist, Taiwo Yemitan, 45, after fresh human remains were discovered in his residence in the Lafenwa area of Abeokuta. The arrest occurred in the early hours of Sunday, following a tip-off from local security outfits, the Agbekoya and vigilante operatives.
In a statement released by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, Yemitan was detained at his home behind Atinsola Petrol Station, Sanni, at around 1:40 a.m. The remains of the victim, identified as Darasimi, were reportedly found dismembered, with the suspect confessing to luring her to his home with the intent to kill.
“During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the murder and disclosed that he had accomplices—Kehinde Yemitan and another individual named Kazeem, whose full identity is yet to be determined,” Odutola stated. She further revealed that the perpetrators planned to sell the victim’s head and body parts.
The dismembered remains of the victim have been transported to the Ijaye General Hospital morgue in Abeokuta for post-mortem examination. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the accomplices and locate the victim’s relatives.
The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation. SP Odutola assured the public that the police would leave no stone unturned in ensuring justice for the victim and her family.
