Date:

The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26, 2024, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as public holidays to mark Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year celebrations respectively.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Monday morning. On behalf of the government, he extended warm greetings to all Nigerians and called for reflection on the values of love, peace, and unity that the festive season represents.

In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Minister emphasized the importance of fostering harmony and strengthening community and family bonds during the Yuletide season.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo congratulated Christians in Nigeria and the diaspora, urging them to emulate the teachings and life of Jesus Christ, which emphasize humility, service, compassion, and patience. He noted that peace and security remain crucial for national economic development and prosperity.

He also assured citizens of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to ensure the security of lives and property under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu. He encouraged Nigerians to stay vigilant, report suspicious activities to security agencies, and practice discipline during the festive period to safeguard their communities.

“The Christmas season is a time for spiritual reflection and national renewal,” said Dr. Tunji-Ojo. “As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences.”

The Minister expressed confidence in the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration, projecting a better and more prosperous year in 2025. He called on Nigerians to remain optimistic and committed to collective progress.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo concluded by wishing all Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, reaffirming the government’s commitment to peace, security, and national prosperity.
