Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has cast doubt on signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, citing his similarity in playing style to current PSG forward Randal Kolo Muani.
The 25-year-old Super Eagles star, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has been heavily linked with a transfer to the French champions following impressive performances for both club and country.
Despite previous reports suggesting a potential move last summer, the deal fell through.
When asked about Osimhen in a press conference ahead of PSG’s 4-3 penalty win over RC Lens in the French Cup, Enrique remained tight-lipped, stating, “I’m not talking about players who aren’t in the club, in any case.”
However, PSG’s sporting director Luís Campos is reportedly still keen on bringing the 2023 African Footballer of the Year winner to Paris, according to French journalist Djamel.
Even if PSG steps back due to Enrique’s reluctance, Osimhen remains a sought-after target, with Premier League clubs like Manchester United also showing interest under new manager Ruben Amorim.
Osimhen has been in excellent form at Galatasaray, registering 12 goals and five assists in 15 appearances for the Super Lig champions this season.
Meanwhile, football expert Daniel Riolo has criticised Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique for rejecting Victor Osimhen’s transfer last summer, suggesting that the decision may now be seen as a mistake.
Riolo, speaking on RMC Sport, believes that Enrique now realizes the error of his decision, especially considering Osimhen’s impressive form in Turkey and his lower current market value.
“Luis Enrique wants reinforcements. He realises that he was wrong, and in particular on a player who he did not want in August and who is now doing well in Turkey, and who now costs far less than he did this summer,” Riolo stated.
PSG has renewed interest in signing Osimhen in January, with sporting director Luis Campos, who has known the striker since his time with the Golden Eaglets, actively pushing for the move.
Osimhen is aware of the revived interest, with his agent reportedly contacted by PSG.
