Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has revealed plans for the first-ever dual carriageway in Iwo, marking a significant step in his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure across the state.
The announcement was made on Saturday during the annual Iwo Day celebrations, where the governor disclosed that the dualisation of the Adeke-Odori road would be carried out in two phases. The first phase will extend from Odoori to the Post Office area of Iwo, with a branch running in front of the Oluwo palace. The second phase will stretch from the Post Office to the Adeeke junction.
Governor Adeleke emphasized that this project is part of his administration’s goal to ensure equitable development across the state. He said, “In line with our commitment to equity and fairness, our administration has approved a dual carriageway for Iwo. The dualisation of the Adeke-Odori road will be done in two phases.”
The governor also instructed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to organize community engagement events, ensuring stakeholders are consulted on the proposed highway. Work on the project is set to begin in January 2025.
In addition to the road project, Adeleke highlighted other key achievements in Iwo, including the rehabilitation of local roads and the Iwo water works, which are expected to significantly improve the town’s infrastructure and public services.
The governor also reaffirmed the leadership of Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo, as the President of the Iwo Council of Traditional Rulers, urging him to continue his efforts in fostering unity and progress for the community.
Lai Olurode, the President of the Iwo Board of Trustees, encouraged Iwo indigenes to support the traditional ruler in his vision to transform the town, emphasizing the board’s dedication to volunteerism and community development.
This announcement of the dual carriageway project is seen as a major milestone in Governor Adeleke’s efforts to modernize Osun’s infrastructure and improve the quality of life for residents in Iwo and surrounding areas.
