The Lagos State Government has announced that the Mushin Fresh Food Agro-Hub achieved a remarkable ₦2.495 billion in transactions during its first year of operation. The hub, supported by 348 vendors, attracted 75,000 visitors across 81 market days, establishing itself as a transformative force in food distribution in the state.
Ms. Abisola Olusanya, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food System, shared these figures in a statement issued on Thursday. She highlighted the hub’s role as more than just a marketplace, describing it as a catalyst for innovation in Lagos’ agricultural supply chain.
The Mushin Fresh Food Agro-Hub has provided farmers and traders with a reliable platform to sell their produce, ensuring fair pricing, reducing post-harvest losses, and creating a more efficient supply chain.
“This hub has boosted livelihoods, improved food accessibility through fair pricing, created job opportunities, and contributed to the economic growth of the community,” Olusanya said.
By bridging the gap between rural producers and urban consumers, the hub has not only benefited local vendors and farmers but also enhanced food accessibility for Lagosians.
Spanning a 6,400-square-metre site in Idi-Oro, the hub offers a structured and organized marketplace, reducing farmers’ reliance on middlemen. It features central wet and dry storage facilities and 3,017 square metres of parking space for trailers and other vehicles.
The facility promotes bulk buying, enhances logistics, and ensures fresh and affordable produce reaches residents. Olusanya described the hub as a model of innovation and sustainability for Lagos, Nigeria, and Africa as a whole.
The success of the Mushin Agro-Hub is part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s broader efforts to strengthen food security and economic empowerment in Lagos. Ongoing projects include the Lagos Logistics Hub in Epe and the construction of additional fresh food agro-hubs across the state.
“These projects aim to streamline food supply chains, enhance food security, and create economic opportunities for Lagos’ growing population,” Olusanya said.
She praised the Sanwo-Olu administration for its commitment to addressing systemic challenges through innovative, community-focused initiatives that reshape economies and improve livelihoods.
The Mushin Fresh Food Agro-Hub exemplifies how strategic investments in agriculture and logistics can drive socio-economic growth. With its transparent market system, job creation, and emphasis on fair pricing, it is paving the way for a more secure and prosperous future for Lagos residents.
“This agro-hub is proof that innovative projects can transform communities and economies, setting a standard for sustainable development across Africa,” Olusanya concluded.
