President Tinubu to Unveil N47.96Tr Budget Under Tight Security Today

Date:

Security measures were heightened at the National Assembly Complex on Tuesday as President Bola Tinubu prepared to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives.

Armed police officers were strategically stationed at key entry points, including the Main Gate (MOPOL), Villa Gate, and Annex Gates, ensuring that only individuals with proper accreditation gained access. Despite the tightened security, the accreditation process remained smooth, with no reported disruptions.

The typically bustling complex saw restricted human and vehicular movement, creating an unusually quiet atmosphere. The usually lively foyer and corridors of the National Assembly were largely deserted as preparations were finalized for the president’s arrival.

President Tinubu is expected to unveil a 2025 budget proposal amounting to N47.96 trillion, marking a significant financial framework for the country’s economic plans. The budget is based on an oil price benchmark of $75 per barrel, an oil production capacity of 2.06 million barrels per day, and an exchange rate of N1,400 to the dollar, according to Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Atiku Bagudu.

This presentation is a pivotal moment in setting Nigeria’s fiscal direction for the upcoming year, as lawmakers and stakeholders await the president’s detailed outline of spending and revenue projections.
