A tragic stampede at a private children’s funfair held at Basorun Islamic High School in Ibadan, Oyo State, has reportedly claimed multiple lives and left many injured. The incident occurred in the early hours of today, sparking widespread grief and prompting a swift government response.
Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, confirmed the incident and announced that the government had deployed a rapid response team to assist victims. Those injured have been transported to various hospitals across Ibadan for medical attention.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, activated emergency response teams to provide immediate support at the scene. The state government has also assured affected families of its full support during this difficult time.
In a statement, Oyelade clarified that the state government was not involved in organizing the private event and that the Ministry of Health was not consulted to provide logistics. He emphasized the importance of proper coordination when planning large gatherings, particularly those involving children.
The government is awaiting a detailed report from the Commissioner of Police to determine the exact number of casualties and those injured in the incident.
