The Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF) has received a significant boost with the donation of a state-of-the-art e-library and co-working space from Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu. The facility, aimed at enhancing the productivity and engagement of young lawmakers, was officially commissioned on Friday in Abuja.
The YPF, which is made up of young members of Nigeria’s National Assembly under the age of 40, works to foster youth participation in the country’s legislative processes. The group is recognized by the United Nations and provides a platform for young lawmakers to connect, share ideas, and engage with citizens on national issues.
Seyi Tinubu’s donation, which he described as a fulfillment of a promise to support the aspirations of the group, is housed in a modern, multi-story building on Mississippi Street in Abuja, known as The Congrès. The building features an e-library, a physical library, and collaborative co-working spaces designed to facilitate discussions, strategy sessions, and the creation of youth-oriented legislation.
At the commissioning ceremony, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, expressed his admiration for the initiative, highlighting the importance of creating spaces where young lawmakers can come together to drive national progress. “This facility will serve as a hub for innovation and policy development,” he said, underscoring its potential impact on youth representation in the country’s governance.
Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, also commended the initiative, noting that such a facility would have been beneficial during his time as a legislator. “This is an excellent environment for young lawmakers to strategize and deliberate on issues crucial to nation-building,” he said.
The project was developed in collaboration with Tope Adekoya, CEO of 7-Fifteen Capital Ltd, and Adesuwa Belo-Osagie, Co-CEO of the same company. Their efforts were pivotal in bringing the vision for The Congrès to life.
With the opening of this new facility, the Young Parliamentarians Forum is poised to enhance its capacity to engage with young Nigerians and influence the future of the nation’s legislative processes.
