Struggling Napoli May Turn to Osimhen

Date:

Napoli manager Antonio Conte has suggested a potential recall for Victor Osimhen as the club grapples with a lack of goals, with current striker Romelu Lukaku underperforming.

The Partenopei endured a difficult week, suffering a 3-1 defeat to Lazio that saw them exit the Copa Italia before losing 1-0 to the same opponents in Serie A. The back-to-back losses cost Napoli their lead at the top of the league, which is now held by Atalanta.

Lukaku, who has scored just five goals in 15 appearances this season, has drawn criticism from fans and appears to have lost the full backing of Conte. The manager voiced his frustration after the latest setback, saying, “We need to improve in this respect. We get there, but the final step is missing. We are working on it.”

While Napoli struggles, Victor Osimhen has been in scintillating form on loan at Galatasaray. The Nigerian international has scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 13 appearances, playing a key role in helping the Turkish side maintain a six-point lead at the top of the Super Lig with 38 points from 14 matches.

The 25-year-old’s exploits have attracted interest from European giants Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, who are reportedly considering activating his €75m release clause in January. However, Napoli director Giovanni Manna has dismissed such speculation.

“I’ve said many times that nobody has talked to us. Victor is owned by Napoli and is currently playing for Galatasaray. A lot has been said, but nothing is happening,” Manna told DAZN.

Osimhen’s potential return to Naples could be a much-needed solution for Conte, who emphasized the importance of improving the team’s efficiency in front of goal.

The Nigerian forward recently showcased his value again, scoring a penalty in Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over Sivasspor, helping the club stay on course for a third consecutive league title. His goal-scoring prowess and creative influence have made him a vital part of Galatasaray’s campaign.

With Napoli’s title hopes in jeopardy, a recall for Osimhen could be pivotal in reigniting their attack and maintaining their competitive edge in Serie A.
