Fulham defender Calvin Bassey will miss Saturday’s Premier League match against Liverpool after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season, triggering an automatic one-game suspension.
The Nigeria international was booked for a cynical foul on Kai Harbert in the 72nd minute during Fulham’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Sunday.
The yellow car accumulation rules him out of the crucial clash at Anfield.
Bassey’s suspension comes as a setback for Fulham, as the player has been a key part of their campaign.
His absence means he can no longer aim to replicate Alex Iwobi’s achievement from the 2022/23 season, where Iwobi started all 38 Premier League games for Everton.
Iwobi became only the second Nigerian to accomplish the feat, after Joseph Yobo in the 2006/07 season with the Toffees.
Currently, Iwobi, Ndidi, and Ola Aina of Nottingham Forest are the only Nigerians who remain in contention to start every Premier League game this season barring any injuries or suspension.
