NSC confirms EFCC’s probe on NFF

Date:

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has confirmed an ongoing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over allegations of fund misappropriation.

In a statement issued by Michael Obasi, a media aide for the NSC, it was clarified that the EFCC had requested the commission to provide relevant documents related to the NFF. “Setting the record very straight, it is important to state that the EFCC only asked the NSC to furnish it with relevant documents concerning the Nigeria Football Federation,” Obasi explained.

Obasi also highlighted the NSC’s role as the apex body overseeing various sports federations in the country, making it a key source for the requested financial details.

Reports from La Palabras on Saturday indicated that the EFCC had sought detailed records on budgetary allocations, donations, sponsorships, grants, and other payments received by the NFF and the Nigeria Professional Football League over the past two years.

Additionally, the EFCC is expected to visit the NFF’s headquarters at the Sunday Dankaro House as part of its investigations.

It is worth noting that while the NFF has faced previous allegations of corruption, those cases brought to court have not led to convictions.

This latest inquiry aims to scrutinise the financial management of the federation further.
