President Bola Tinubu has made changes to the South-East Development Commission (SEDC) board by replacing four individuals who were appointed only a day earlier.
Emeka Nworgu has been appointed as the new chairman of the board, taking over from Emeka Atuma.
Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, confirmed that Tinubu also replaced all three executive directors initially nominated and appointed two new executive directors.
These changes came less than 24 hours after the president submitted the list of nominees for both the SEDC and North West Development Commission (NWDC) boards to the Senate for confirmation.
Onanuga further revealed that Donatus Nwankpa has been removed from the SEDC board, while Mark Okoye will continue serving as the commission’s managing director and CEO.
The newly appointed executive directors include Stanley Ohajuruka, who replaces Anthony Ugbo as the executive director for finance, and Toby Okechukwu, who takes over from Obinna Obiekweihe as the executive director of projects.
Chief Sylvester Okonkwo has been appointed as the new executive director of corporate services, replacing Dr. Daniel Ikechukwu Ugwuja. Two additional nominated executive directors without specific portfolios are Chidi Echeazu and Dr. Clifford Ogbede.
Other nominees who remain in their positions include Barr. Ugochukwu H. Agballah, Hon. Okey Ezenwa, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor, Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu, Nasiru Usman, and Hamma Adama Ali Kumo. Edward David Onoja, Orure Kufre Inima, and Joke Adebayo-Chukwuma have also retained their roles.
Onanuga added that these appointments are pending Senate confirmation and emphasized that the president expects the new appointees to fulfill the commission’s mandate and contribute to the development of the South-East.
