Silva hails outstanding Iwobi

Fulham boss Marco Silva has hailed matchwinner Alex Iwobi’s ‘outstanding’ contribution in his side’s 3-1 victory over Brighton at Craven Cottage.

The former Arsenal and Everton star scored twice in the match, marking his second brace in 267 Premier League appearances.

“Alex has been outstanding from the first day of pre-season,” Silva said in an interview with the BBC.

He is in a happy place and is a fantastic footballer. Last season was his best in the Premier League, and one or two months ago, I mentioned that he would be even better in this one.

“He is versatile, allowing me to use him in many positions. He’s a top player, contributing more assists and goals than ever. What a game for him; he deserves all the credit,”

Iwobi capitalised on an early error by Bart Verbruggen in the fourth minute, giving Fulham a flying start.

He later secured the Cottagers’ win with a brilliant curling strike in the 87th minute, scoring 3-1.

The Nigerian was named the official Premier League Man of the Match.

With five goals in 14 appearances this term, he has already matched his total from last season, where he also netted five times in 30 appearances.

This victory marks Iwobi’s sixth in 13 matches against Brighton, and his brace brings his total goals against the Seagulls to three.

He has now achieved 107 wins in 267 Premier League appearances.
