Wike unveils 18KM Nyanya-Karu-Orozo Road Revamp

Date:

The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has flagged off the rehabilitation of the 18-kilometer Nyanya-Karu-Orozo road in Abuja, a critical project aimed at addressing longstanding infrastructure challenges in the nation’s capital.

The rehabilitation, approved under emergency measures by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is set to be completed within eight months.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Wike emphasised the importance of the road, which serves densely populated communities and key government agencies, as vital for easing transportation challenges.

“During our visit to the Karshi-Apo road, I saw the deplorable state of the Nyanya-Karu-Orozo road and said, ‘No, this is not acceptable.’ We wrote to Mr. President, and he approved immediate rehabilitation,” Wike stated.

The rehabilitation will include the installation of streetlights to improve safety and aesthetics. Wike expressed confidence in the contractor’s ability to deliver the project on time.

“Once this road is rehabilitated and the Karshi-Apo road is completed, the area will experience significant relief,” he said.

The minister also inspected the ongoing construction of the Apo-Karshi road, expressing reservations about the contractor’s capacity to meet expectations but noting that work has resumed following government intervention.

Traffic diversions have caused temporary congestion at the project site, but residents expressed relief that the neglected road is finally receiving attention.

“This rehabilitation is long overdue, and we are hopeful it will bring lasting relief,” a resident of Jikwoyi Phase 4 said.

Residents also appealed to the minister to address an ongoing electricity crisis in the area caused by a blown transformer, which has left parts of the community in darkness for months.

The Nyanya-Karu-Orozo road rehabilitation is part of Wike’s broader strategy to address critical infrastructure deficits in the FCT.

With President Tinubu’s support, the project is expected to boost economic activity, ease transportation, and improve the quality of life for residents.

Wike’s proactive approach underscores the administration’s commitment to fostering development in Abuja. Residents remain optimistic that this intervention signals the beginning of sustained progress for the region.
