Viral Oil Scooping Video: Suspects Not Nigerian Police Officers, Force PRO Clarifies

Date:

The Nigeria Police Force has debunked claims linking its officers to a viral video showing uniformed personnel allegedly scooping fuel from the wreckage of an overturned tanker.

The video, which has sparked outrage across social media platforms, features individuals in camouflage uniforms engaging in unprofessional conduct.

In a statement issued by the body’s Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF clarified that the individuals captured in the footage are not members of the Nigerian police but are uniformed personnel from a neighboring Francophone country.

The statement highlighted that the individuals were speaking in French, not in English or any Nigerian language, further dispelling the connection to Nigeria.

“We strongly condemn the spread of such disinformation and unverified content aimed at tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force,” Adejobi said in a statement.

“These actions not only undermine the integrity of the force but also carry far-reaching negative consequences for the nation and its citizens.”

The NPF reiterated its commitment to professionalism, discipline, and the safety of all Nigerians under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police.

It also urged Nigerians to exercise caution and verify information before disseminating it, emphasising the need to protect the credibility of institutions dedicated to public safety.

The Force has called on the public to disregard the misleading video and remains resolute in its efforts to uphold its reputation and the trust of the Nigerian people.

The body also encouraged citizens to rely on verified sources and contribute to fostering national unity.
