Macron Gifts Mbappé’s Iconic Jersey to Tinubu During State Visit

Date:

During Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to France, French President Emmanuel Macron presented him with a special gift: Kylian Mbappé’s iconic number 10 France jersey. The gesture symbolized the strong ties and growing partnership between the two nations, News360 Nigeria reports.

The jersey, famously worn by Paris Saint-Germain’s star striker, carries a universal appeal, particularly resonating with Nigeria’s deep passion for football. Macron, holding the jersey, remarked with a smile, “Number 10 like [Kylian] Mbappé,” prompting a warm response from President Tinubu.

Welcoming Tinubu, Macron expressed his admiration and personal connection to Nigeria. Speaking partly in Pidgin English, Macron said, “It’s a great honour for France, dear President Bola Tinubu (@officialABAT), to welcome you for this state visit as a major partner and friend of today and tomorrow. I still fondly recall my time as a young intern at the French Embassy in Nigeria.”

In addition to the jersey, Macron presented other symbolic gifts to Tinubu and the First Lady, further reflecting the deepening relationship between the two countries. The exchange, characterized by mutual respect and camaraderie, reinforced Macron’s acknowledgment of Nigeria’s pivotal leadership role and his fondness for the country.

This gesture not only celebrated football as a unifying force but also highlighted the enduring diplomatic bond between Nigeria and France.
