17 Shops Destroyed as Fire Ravages Ibadan Market

Date:

A massive fire broke out at Moniya Market in Akinyele Local Government Area, Oyo State, in the early hours of Monday, destroying goods and cash worth millions of naira. The blaze, reportedly caused by a power surge, engulfed 17 shops, leaving traders devastated.

Eyewitnesses said the fire started around 12:30 am. The Babaloja of Moniya Garage, Kolawole Balogun, and the Garage Chairman, Saliu Bello, told reporters they were alerted by a security guard about the incident.

Balogun recounted, “I rushed to the market immediately after receiving the call. Goods worth millions of naira were lost, along with cash many traders kept in their shops overnight. Thankfully, the swift response of the fire service prevented further destruction.”

Affected traders, including Yetunde Musa, Ajetunmobi Idowu, Olaide Badmus, Balogun Sulaimon, and Ajetunmobi Kolawole, have called on the government for immediate assistance to help them recover from the loss.
