Team Nigeria Dominates 2024 Africa Military Games

Team Nigeria emerged victorious at the 2nd Africa Military Games 2024, securing a total of 234 medals, including 114 gold, 65 silver, and 45 bronze, across 21 sports. The games concluded on Saturday night with Nigeria topping the medal table.

Algeria finished in second place with 96 medals, consisting of 53 gold, 22 silver, and 21 bronze. Algeria is also set to host the 3rd edition of the competition. Kenya took third place with 59 medals, including 21 gold, 17 silver, and 12 bronze. Ghana, Ethiopia, and Tunisia rounded out the top six, claiming the fourth, fifth, and sixth spots, respectively.

South Africa, Libya, and Uganda followed in seventh, eighth, and ninth positions, while Tanzania secured the tenth position.

At the closing ceremony, Maj.-Gen. Abdullahi Maikano, president of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OMSA), praised the event for fostering cooperation and unity among African Armed Forces. He highlighted the exceptional displays of skill, determination, and sportsmanship, noting that the games were a celebration of Africa’s shared values.

Maikano further commended the athletes for transcending borders and differences to unite for the common purpose of honoring their nations. He also thanked the Nigerian military authorities and urged all participating nations to carry forward the bonds of cooperation and friendship formed during the games.

“These games have been more than just competition; they are a testament to the discipline, hard work, and unity that we can achieve when we stand together,” Maikano concluded.
