Super Falcons Lose 2-1 to France in Competitive Friendly

Nigeria’s Super Falcons suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat against France in an international friendly held in Angers on Saturday. The loss marks the fourth consecutive victory for France in meetings with the Super Falcons.

Eugenie Le Sommer opened the scoring for France in the 29th minute, while Amel Majri doubled the lead in the 38th minute. However, Ifeoma Onumonu reduced the deficit for Nigeria just before halftime, scoring in the third minute of added time. Despite their efforts, the Falcons couldn’t find an equalizer.

The match saw the return of Ashleigh Plumptre, who had been sidelined due to injury during the Paris Olympic qualifiers. Chiamaka Nnadozie started in goal for Nigeria, with key players like Christy Ucheibe, Gift Monday, Michelle Alozie, Jennifer Echegini, Toni Payne, and Rofiat Imuran all featuring.

Veteran defender Osinachi Ohale was sent off in the 97th minute after receiving a second yellow card, leaving the Falcons to finish the match with 10 players.

The defeat highlights areas for improvement as the Super Falcons continue to prepare for upcoming international engagements.
