A herbalist, Ismail Usman, is battling for his life after accidentally shooting himself while testing a bulletproof charm he had prepared. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command confirmed the incident, which occurred in Kuchibuyi village, Abuja.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the police received a distress call from a resident reporting the incident. Usman had used a locally made gun to shoot himself in the stomach, trusting the charm to shield him from harm.
Police officers from the Byazhin Division responded swiftly, discovering Usman in critical condition. He was initially rushed to Kubwa General Hospital for emergency care before being transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for further treatment.
A search of Usman’s residence by the police led to the recovery of the homemade gun and various charms used in his experiment.
Adeh stated that Usman will face charges for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide, an offense under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
The police reiterated the dangers of engaging in such risky practices, urging the public to prioritize safety and seek lawful ways to address their concerns.
