The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has postponed its Annual General Congress, initially scheduled for Saturday, November 30, 2024.
In a notice issued on Friday, November 29, 2024, and shared with Congress delegates via WhatsApp, the federation’s Secretary General, Rita Moshindi, announced that the Congress will now take place on Saturday, December 14, 2024, in Asaba, Delta State.
The notice, signed on behalf of AFN President Chief Tonobok Okowa, explained the reasons behind the rescheduling.
“I have been directed by the President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Chief Tonobok Okowa, to reschedule the Congress earlier slated for November 30, 2024, to December 14, 2024, in Asaba, Delta State,” Moshindi wrote.
“This became necessary to address issues and foster unity within the Board before the Congress, ensuring full participation of all Congress members at the December 14th meeting. Additionally, the President has a scheduled courtesy visit to the newly appointed Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC).”
The notice was issued less than 24 hours before the previously planned meeting. The upcoming Congress will be conducted both physically and virtually via Zoom.
