Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has proposed a record ₦971 billion budget for the 2025 fiscal year, marking an 86.4 per cent increase from the 2024 budget of ₦521.5 billion.
The 2025 budget is divided into ₦837.9 billion (86 per cent) for capital expenditure and ₦133.1 billion (14 per cent) for recurrent expenditure.
A significant portion of the budget, ₦320.6 billion (33 per cent) will go to education, continuing the focus on education as a key driver of economic growth and poverty reduction.
The budget also reflects an increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), which rose by 286 per cent from ₦37.4 billion in 2023 to ₦144.7 billion by September 2024.
The governor emphasised the importance of laying a strong foundation for the state’s economy, with investments in infrastructure, education, health, roads, agriculture, and water supply.
The economic sector will receive ₦462 billion (55.1 per cent) of the capital expenditure, with the social sector getting ₦345.7 billion (41.2 per cent).
The governor’s administration aims to make Enugu a leading state in terms of GDP and eradicate poverty.
