Fulham 1-4 Wolves: Iwobi scores 25th EPL goal

Date:

Nigerian midfielder, Alex Iwobi, took his Premier League tally to 25 on Saturday when he scored his third goal of the season in Fulham’s 4-1 loss at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Iwobi, making his 265th league appearance, opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a stunning left-footed shot into the far corner, giving Fulham a 1-0 lead.

However, Wolverhampton Wanderers quickly restored parity through Matheus Cunha, who finished calmly after controlling Mario Lamina’s superb pass over the top.

The visitors took control early in the second half with Joao Gomes’ goal in the 53rd minute, putting Wolves 2-1 up.

Cunha then sealed his brace with a fine strike in the 87th minute, and substitute Goncalo Guedes added a fourth goal in stoppage time to complete the rout.

Iwobi’s goal against Wolves was his sixth in 12 appearances against the club, making them his most frequent Premier League target since his debut in October 2015.

With two goals left to match his season-high of five, set in the 2023/24 campaign, the 28-year-old will be aiming for more as the season progresses.

Iwobi has also provided two assists and is chasing his record of seven assists in a single season, a feat he shares with Peter Odemwingie.

Meanwhile, Fulham’s Nigerian defender, Calvin Bassey, made his 12th start of the season and leads the Nigerian players in the Premier League with 990 minutes played so far this campaign.
