President Bola Tinubu has written to the Nigerian Senate, requesting confirmation of Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff.
This request, made in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Armed Forces Act, follows Oluyede’s appointment as Acting Chief of Army Staff on October 30, after the illness of Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja. Tragically, Lagbaja passed away on November 5.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in Oluyede’s leadership capabilities, professional integrity, and experience in handling national security and stability.
Before his acting role, Oluyede served as the 56th Commander of the Nigerian Army’s elite Infantry Corps and has held several important positions in his career, such as commanding the 27 Task Force Brigade in Operation HADIN KAI in the northeast.
Oluyede, a member of the 39th Regular Course, has earned numerous honors for his meritorious service, including the Corps Medal of Honour, the Grand Service Star, and the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award. He is married with three children.
