NPFL ROUNDUP: Remo, Enyimba draw, Rangers move to fourth

Date:

Table toppers Remo Stars on Sunday failed to make their home advantage count after they were held to a goalless draw by closest rivals Rivers United.

The draw meant Remo stayed top on 23 points from 12 games, still just a point more than Rivers United.

Third-placed Enyimba were also held to a 1-1 draw at Abia Warriors.

Flying Eagles winger Clinton Jephta put Enyimba ahead after only nine minutes only for the home team to draw level on 26 minutes through Adejoh Ojonugwa.

Enyimba now have 20 points from a dozen matches.

Defending champions Enugu Rangers climbed to fourth spot courtesy of a 3-2 home win over Bendel Insurance.

‘The Flying Antelopes’ raced into a 3-0 lead with goals by Godwin Obaje, Frank Uwumiro and Effimi Nse before Insurance fought back to score twice.

Ikorodu City won the Southwest Derby against Shooting Stars 2-1 after they had to come from a goal behind, while there were home wins for Sunshine Stars and Kwara United.

Heartland continued their resurgence after they held Kano Pillars to a 2-2 draw at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

Pillars goals by Rabiu Ali and Ahmed Musa were wildly celebrated on their return to their home ground, but Heartland fought back to salvage a draw on the day.

The pressure continues to mount on coach Ladan Bosso after Bayelsa United were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Katsina United.
