Super Eagles winger, Ademola Lookman, was excused from Saturday’s training session after suffering a knock in Thursday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against Benin Republic.
The Eagles held Benin to a 1-1 draw in Abidjan, Ivory Coast – a result which ensured Nigeria’s qualification to AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
Lookman who was replaced by Frank Onyeka in additional time of the encounter remains a doubt for Monday’s dead rubber encounter against Rwanda.
Since making his debut for Nigeria in 2022, Lookamn has scored eight times in 27 games for the three-time African champions.
Meanwhile, the Eagles will be without their first-choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali for the game against Rwanda.
Nwabali was also excused from the game after the death of his father.
His father, Godspower Abali, a surveyor, died on Wednesday, aged 67, but the family decided to keep the news from the goalkeeper and the Super Eagles until after the AFCON qualifier vs. Benin on Thursday.
Nwabali announced on social media, hours after helping Nigeria to earn the point in Abidjan that put the seal on their qualification for AFCON 2025, that his father had died.
He first posted “RIP Dad” accompanied by a crying face emoji and a burning candle.
He then posted again to say “Rest in heaven” with a broken-heart emoji and a burning candle.
Nwabali’s absence means Maduka Okoye or Amas Obasogie will play in goal for Nigeria on Monday.
