Victor Boniface has expressed his disappointment missing out on the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award shortlist.
Boniface was instrumental to helping Bayer Leverkusen win their first-ever Bundesliga title and also the DFB-Pokal but he missed out on the shortlist by CAF.
However, his Super Eagles teammates Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong made the shortlist.
Speaking in an interview with Nigerian journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, Boniface said he deserved to be shortlisted based on his performance last season.
“Of course, I’m disappointed not being shortlisted. If it’s what I did last season I should be disappointed but I don’t stress about it,” he said.
When asked who he would pick if given the opportunity, he replied, “If I’m to pick the winner it would be Lookman 100 percent and if I were there I would pick myself.”
On whether there is the possibility of another team going unbeaten in the Bundesliga, he said:” I don’t know if we would ever see a team go unbeaten in the Bundesliga again, I can’t see the future but I hope not.”
Boniface was in action for the Super Eagles in Thursday’s AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Benin Republic which ended 1-1.
