Ajegunle Community Hunts alleged Bisexual man, family over “Taboo” Lifestyle

Date:

The quiet community of Ajegunle, Osogbo in Osun State has been plunged into turmoil as residents, alongside local police, launched a manhunt for a man accused of being bisexual, an act viewed as a grave taboo in the community.

This sad incident comes after the brutal murder of Fatai Amoo, believed to be Kehinde Fakayode’s partner – an incident that has sparked outrage and fear in the community.

On the 18th of August 2024, Amoo’s decomposing body was found in a local river, an act the community claims was part of a ritual to “cleanse” the land.

Fakayode popularly known as Kenny F is on the run along with his wife and two young children after villagers accused him of desecrating their land through his sexual preference by the indigenes.

Falomo Adewusi, a community leader, confirmed the incident to La Palabras, stating that the late Amoo was tied and beaten to death.

“The manner in which he was killed was a gory sight to behold,” Adewusi said.

“It is believed that it is the first part of the land cleansing being done as the search continues for Kenny F (Fakayode).”

Residents of Ajegunle community also believe that the Fakayode family must be found and ”cleansed” to restore the village’s sanctity.

They also issued a stern warning, asserting that Kenny “can only run far but cannot hide,” adding that law enforcement is actively pursuing him under Nigeria’s strict anti-gay laws.

An indigene of Ajegunle who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity as he was not authorised to speak on behalf of the community, said Kenny’s sexual preference is viewed as a grave taboo by the community.

“The family must be located. This is not something our village can tolerate, as it must be addressed properly,” he said.

However, residents of Ajegunle remain divided on the issue; with some supporting the pursuit of Kenny as they bid to ‘’cleanse’’ their land while others express concerns about the community’s violent actions.

Ajakaye Ibrahim, a resident of the community expressed concern for Kenny’s safety.

“If he is caught, there’s little chance he will survive what awaits him,” he said somberly.

“The police involvement likely stems from the anti-gay legislation, but the villagers’ wrath is far more dangerous.”

This ugly incident has raised questions about Nigeria’s anti-gay laws and the potential for vigilante justice, as efforts to locate Kenny and his family intensifies.

Meanwhile, the community is grappling with escalating tension fueled by hate speeches and threats of further violence.

Our correspondent also learnt that The Nigeria Police Force is reportedly investigating the matter under the nation’s strict anti-gay laws, which prohibit same-sex relationships and impose severe penalties.

They also joined in the manhunt for Kenny and his family, who fled after news of his alleged bisexuality, became public.

The community’s response underscores the harsh realities faced by individuals who challenge societal norms in a country where such actions are not just frowned upon but can be life-threatening.

The fate of Kenny and his family remain uncertain, as fear, stigma, and cultural pressures overshadow their pursuit of safety.
