Moses Simon made a significant impact for Nantes, scoring and assisting in their dramatic 3-2 loss to RC Lens at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Saturday.
Despite Simon’s efforts, the Canaries couldn’t prevent a fifth defeat of the season, which saw them slip to 14th place in Ligue 1.
The match kicked off with Lens taking the lead through a 21st-minute penalty by Przemyslaw Frankowski.
Nantes quickly responded with Simon converting a penalty after Facundo Medina fouled Nicolas Cozza in the box. The Nigeria international made an assist for Cozza in the 71st minute seemed to have put Nantes in control, but Lens weren’t finished.
A dramatic equaliser from Hamzat Ojediran in the 86th minute, his first goal for the club since joining from Debreceni Vasutas, set the stage for a nail-biting finish.
The match concluded with a last-minute header from Adrien Thomasson, securing a 3-2 win for Lens and condemning Nantes to their second consecutive loss.
While Simon’s performance (three goals and four assists in 10 league games) continues to shine, it wasn’t enough to stave off another painful defeat for Nantes, who will need to find a way to halt their slide down the table.
